With the world as my field of operations

Anders Cedronius at Operations has long-term experience of the professional media industry and works with technical sales support and network design. Operations works the closest to the customers and constitutes the link between Net Insight’s customers, sales personnel and technicians.

"In the beginning of 2001 when Net Insight needed to further strengthen its expertise within professional media. I worked with the technology for production and postproduction of professional video since the beginning of the 1990s, first in Sweden and then in the US where HDTV, for instance, was adopted early. When Net Insight’s network solutions began to be brought into operation by various media companies and television operators, my knowledge complemented Net Insight’s already deep know-how within transport solutions and networks."

What do you work with at the Operations department?

We are the link between the customers, Net Insight’s salespeople and our own development department. We initially provide the salespeople with the technical support necessary to create a network solution based on each customer’s unique needs. When the solution is implemented at the customer, we conduct the project and ensure that everything from delivery and installation to start-up is done in the allotted time.

We train the customers to take care of the networks and also provide support when the networks are put into operation. Our group is based in Sweden, the US and Singapore. I personally work with Stockholm as a base, but have the entire world as my field of operations, which is very stimulating. Network design and technical support are my primary tasks and I am often on-site at our customers. I recently came home from Central Europe where I helped a customer take their technical solution a step further.

 What is the customers’ impression of Net Insight?

I often hear that they are pleasantly surprised over how simple it is to bring our solution into operation besides the expected functionality. My  role is to act as an important communication channel between the customers and our colleagues in product management and the development department. We often receive direct feedback from the customers we meet, including suggestions for new functions, which largely drives our development. With the Nimbra platform we also have an opportunity to add services and functionality that provide something extra beyond what the customer desired. This results in many positive comments.

What has been the most challenging project during the year?

There are many good examples. One is the global media network with nodes in Europe, the US, Asia and the Middle East that we built. It was a large network that ties together local city networks with a larger global network. Here our Nimbra platform fit perfectly as it is flexible with regard to both capacity utilization and topology. The customer was extremely satisfied with the solution and the network is under continued expansion. This is what makes it so fun to work with Net Insight. Our market is in a strong development phase and a lot is happening right now. Our solutions and our company fit in well here thanks to the flexibility in different applications, and I can constantly work with the latest media and transport technology.

What trends can you see on the market?

The proportion of video and other real-time media services in the networks is constantly increasing and the operators are building newer and more efficient networks. HDTV will play a key role in the demand for capacity and higher speeds. Digital terrestrial TV is being rolled out globally and also creating new opportunities for mobile TV. We have been talking about the convergence between voice, data and video, and this is now being fully implemented. These converging services make it possible to share resources in a manner that was not previously possible because all of the services are now in a single network. The network provides a possibility to bridge different media resources. For me it is inspiring to work with the leading technology in transport networks and media/video while at the same time working closely with the customers and seeing the technology’s great potential come to fruition in concrete solutions.
