Net Insight (SX: NET I B) is introducing the Nimbra™ 340 multi-service access and switching device designed for the most demanding video and data applications. The Nimbra 340 represents a quantum leap in advanced video/data functionality housed in a small outline for media networking applications. The new 2 Rack Unit (2U) device is designed to be located on broadcaster’s premises and in co-location POPs, providing advanced video and data functionality that was previously only available in large central office units.
Applications for the new device include studio production and contribution, and broadcast distribution in CATV, Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T) or Triple Play networks. Studio applications can take advantage the Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and DVB-ASI services complemented with an optional 270 Mbps SDI Access Module for uncompressed video. Broadcast applications benefit from the cost-effective built-in GbE and ASI ports and the device has a wide selection of transport interfaces to choose from, ranging from DS-3/E3 to OC-48/STM-16.
The Nimbra 340 is fully compatible with the larger Nimbra One series of products for central office applications. The new device takes advantage of Net Insight’s next generation SDH/SONET, Nimbra platform that provides the highest bandwidth utilization with the guaranteed 100% QoS required by broadcasters. It also takes advantage of the Nimbra platform to support automated end-to-end provisioning (uni/multicast) and re-routing resilience against network faults.
“This opens up new opportunities for us to reach a broader market, both within the broadcast and professional media market”, says Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight. “The Nimbra 340 meets the ever-growing need of MSOs and digital terrestrial broadcasters for the most advanced video services.”
The functionality is housed in a slim 2 RU device that can be installed in either a standard 19´´ rack or stand-alone. Redundant -48VDC direct feeding or 115/230VAC power supplies ensures reliable and trouble-free operation. Services such as Ethernet or ASI can have bandwidth allocated with guaranteed QoS in increments of 0.5 Mbps. The Nimbra 340 will be available in Q1 -05.
