Nimbra 340-HD enables uncompressed live high definition sports and events broadcasts plus studio production and contribution

STOCKHOLM, September 8, 2005 – Net Insight (SX: NET I B), a leading provider of video, voice and data networking equipment, today announced the Nimbra 340-HD (High Definition) switched multi-service access solution for live broadcasts plus studio production and contribution. Housed in a slim 2 RU device, it is the first uncompressed transport solution that can be deployed in any network topology supporting both the U.S. and European versions of HD-SDI.
Nimbra 340-HD allows broadcasters to distribute uncompressed HD in a wide range of content services, from Live-HD broadcasting of sports and stadium events to pre-taped studio production and contribution. It handles bandwidths for these applications with unsurpassed flexibility by allocating with strict quality-of-service, independent of the network load. This results in much higher utilization of the infrastructure without loss of QoS.

Unlike other products that can only do HD-SDI point-to-point, Nimbra 340-HD supports point to multi-point distribution of video, data and voice in a flexible, topology independent manner with guaranteed QoS. Moreover, it combines the cost-effectiveness of fixed Gigabit Ethernet and HD-SDI ports with the flexibility of optional plug-in units for services such as PDH, SDI, or ASI.

Nimbra 340-HD is also interoperable with the larger Nimbra One series of products for central office applications, and supports automated end-to-end provisioning and re-routing resilience against network faults, including extensive fault and performance monitoring and hot swap of interfaces.

“With the accelerating use of HD we now experience a growing demand for a multi-service access switch that can transport uncompressed HD over any network topology,” said Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight. “Now with the launch of the Nimbra 340-HD, Net Insight is filling an important gap in the market.”
