Next Generation IP Media Networks

To meet the increased importance of IP based networking for broadcasters, new functionality has been introduced into the Nimbra platform that further expands its usability for IP network based contribution and distribution.

Net Insight’s Nimbra platform is renowned for providing the market’s highest Quality of Service for IP media transport, including scalable IP multicast with millisecond protection times.  Now, by adding end-to-end performance monitoring capabilities on all IP/Ethernet channels, this can also be verified to end-users and customers without adding costly external equipment

By introducing new unique channelized IP trunk modules in all Nimbra platforms, Net Insight has taken IP media networks to the next level. This allows the Nimbra platform to operate over cost-efficient IP links, in combination with SDH/SONET, WDM and microwave links, ensuring highest quality with maintained protection and end-to-end management capabilities.

Thus, the Nimbra platform enables ONE unified media network, independent of underlying infrastructure, with maintained content integrity, reliability and control. The Channelized IP trunk performs true resource reservation across an existing IP network, allowing service separation, improved QoS, manageability and content integrity.

IP trunk module enhances multi-service transport over any network architectureCSI Award 2010

The IP/Ethernet Trunk Module provides a transport solution featuring multi-service operation, optional intermediate switching and signal regeneration for enhanced QoS preservation. With the new module, operators now have the option to create next generation IP media network over existing IP, SDH/SONET, WDM or fiber.

The combination of service re-routing capability based on link performance and the ability to transport media services over both IP and optical links makes the Nimbra platform a unique solution for introduction of media services.

Net Insight was named CSI Awards 2010 winner for its IP Trunk solution at IBC 2010.

Key product features include:

  • Full multiservice support for video, audio and data services
  • QoS Multicast support
  • Three 1000/100/10 Ethernet ports for link diversity and aggregation
    Configurable trunk bandwidth
  • Comprehensive protection options

New switching feature to enhance Ethernet services for IPTV network

The Ethernet Switching Feature combined with 8 x GE Access Module further extends Nimbra as the ideal platform to deliver unsurpassed flexibility and QoS for both IP/Ethernet and broadcasting services in a single, easy-to-manage solution.

Service providers, network aggregators and operators use the new Ethernet Switching Feature to form virtual networks. This can be used for any application, such as QoS multicast transport of IPTV/CATV traffic, distributed office LAN applications, file transfers or live broadcast video, and can be combined with native video/audio/telecom services.

“The benefits of the Nimbra platform have given us the flexibility, quality and reach that we require as a Tier 1 level wholesale bandwidth provider. We are currently using the Ethernet Switching Feature as part of our premium Ethernet service offering, including IPTV distribution, and like the Nimbra platform for its ability to affordably deliver other Ethernet services on same platform.” Scott Hoffmann, Executive Director of Wisconsin Independent Network (WIN).
