Carrier class switch for media backbone networks
Download Nimbra 680 Product Data Sheet
Nimbra 680 is a break-through Next Generation switch from Net Insight.
It implements 80 Gbps fully non-blocking connectivity between all ports
combined with a state-of-the-art switching architecture to
provide the industry’s lowest cost-per-bit switching.
Nimbra 680 is especially aimed at meeting the rigorous 100%
QoS and availability demands of the professional media industry
and Telco and CATV triple-play networks. Nimbra 680 typically forms the high-capacity
backbone layer of a Nimbra network, aggregating and switching traffic from Nimbra 300 series or Nimbra One access nodes.
Key product features:
- High switching capacity 40 or 80 Gbps non-blocking
- Unsurpassed switching granularity down to 512 kbps
- Highest network utilization 95+%
- Signaled end-to-end provisioning and restoration
- Guaranteed 100% QoS independent of network load
- Unique Multicast support with full QoS for any level of forking
- Carrier class design with redundant switch planes, control modules, control paths, and power supplies
- High capacity trunk interfaces, up to 8 x 10 Gbps or 32 x 2.5 Gbps per subrack
- Large selection of pluggable optical interfaces including CWDM and DWDM
Nimbra 680 is fully compatible with the Nimbra One/Nimbra 300
series of multiservice edge and access switches both from transport and management point of view,
and provides an operator with a set of network switching options to meet
its unique needs. Existing Nimbra platform users can take
advantage of Nimbra 680 to economically scale their
networks. All features including signaled end-to-end provisioning and restoration are supported
in a mixed network with different Nimbra products.
The compact 6RU chassis has 12 slots for plug-in modules. Two of these are allocated for redundant
switch modules and two for redundant control modules. This leaves 8 slots for traffic interface modules.
Two or more chassis can be interconnected to provide further interface capacity.
Nimbra 680 provides several network management options. Element management is supported through
a comprehensive web GUI as well as CLI. A standard SNMP interface is available for connection to the
Nimbra Vision NMS or 3rd party management systems.
