Net Insight a leading player for transition to Digital Terrestrial TV distribution - now a part of the first national full-IP DVB-T2 network

Net Insight has an exceptional track record in Digital Terrestrial TV networks (DTT) and has built more DTT and contribution networks than any other vendor. Net Insight’s success in this area is accelerating and we have won seven new contracts over the past six months and four since the beginning of the year. Net Insight is a trusted partner for over 20+ DTT operators and internationally leading media network operators. Many regional and nationwide DTT rollouts remain around the world as over 100 countries still need to do their analog to digital switchover.

Drivers for Transition
According to IMS Research, the number of households with digital terrestrial TV is expected to triple globally over the next five years. The underlying growth in the media industry and the transition to HD, 3D and new production formats are drivers for the digital switchover. The transition to digital networks also frees up frequencies, which governments can sell to various players on the market and is why governments around the world are pushing to implement the transition to digital TV. Digital TV technology leads to lower network operating costs and the opportunity to offer more TV channels and new services to subscribers.

The first full-IP DVB-T2 network in Sweden

Our most recent contract was announced in early May. We at Net Insight are proud to be part of the world’s first national roll-out of digital TV based on IP with DVB-T2 in Sweden. Teracom is a leading media operator in Sweden and offers services in the areas of radio, TV, data communications, co-location and services in the nationwide infrastructure. The agreement covers Teracom’s new nationwide all-IP/Ethernet distribution network and is the first IP-based DVB-T2 network in the world. DVB-T2 is the new standard for Digital Terrestrial TV offering better utilization of capacity, which can be used for HDTV and other value-adding services. The network will carry distribution services both for standard and high definition television for delivery to Teracom’s end-customers. With its multiservice capabilities the Nimbra network will also be utilized to carry other services.

Other successful implementations

The experience and the good results of Net Insight's contribution solution for the 2008 Peking Olympics generated the early success for Net Insight in China, with the world's largest TV market, where we have won three initial contracts in three Chinese regions. Net Insight has also been chosen to deliver to countries in Latin America for their transition to digital TV distribution. Norway is considered to be one of the world’s largest and most efficient digital TV networks with its 450 transmission stations using Nimbra equipment.

Our successful track record is based on our competitive Nimbra platform giving a possibility to add revenue generating services as well as better utilization of capacity.

Key features of the Nimbra platform:

  • Any services over any media
The Nimbra platform supports both IP and Optical interfaces and can operate on top of any combination of IP, SDH, Wavelength, Dark Fiber and microwave networks.

  • More channels over the same infrastructure
The Nimbra platform's support for many different services is important to operators of TV distribution networks. The same network built for distribution of digital TV can also be used to offer other services and generate new revenues. This includes mobile TV, mobile backhaul, digital radio, monitoring services, video and audio contributions from regional studios, contributions from sports arenas, and more. The high degree of utilization in the Nimbra platform often enables 15-20 percent more TV channels to be sent over the same infrastructure, reducing expansion costs and increasing revenues for pay-TV services.

  • Lowest OPEX
Existing customers testify of 50-75 % lower operational expenses compared with competing solutions. With its multiservice capabilities the Nimbra platform reduces the complexity of the total systems solution. All functions and features are integrated in one well engineered platform eliminating the need for external adapters and avoiding additional error sources. End to end monitoring also enables very efficient trouble shooting and network management in general.

  • Guaranteed 100% QoS and highest reliability
In the Nimbra platform broadcast QoS is inherent – zero packet loss – guaranteed regardless of: mix of services in the network, network topology, network load or the level of cross traffic.

  • Time Transfer
An important product property that has made Net Insight even more competitive in this market area is the time transfer function that eliminates the need for costly and potentially vulnerable GPS receivers. Unique Time Transfer capability allows redundant and highly accurate distribution of real time over the same network that carries the video signals.
